Community Dance Residency

Residencies_1920ANTONIO BROWN will be in residence at the CSU Arts Campus offering community master classes and creating choreography for the CSU Dance Company.  He will also direct Studio Sessions, offered free and open to area high school students. Held in the CSU Dance Studio from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m., the residency includes six consecutive Wednesday classes from October 23rd through November 20th, with a final session on December 4th.  In Studio Sessions, Brown will introduce participants to his unique style of contemporary dance technique and, through the course of the residency, create a dance/theater piece that reflects the unique experiences of residency participants. This work will be presented free for friends and family at the CSU Arts Campus on December 6th.

ANTONIO BROWN is a Cleveland native who studied at The Cleveland School of the Arts and The Juilliard School. A member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company for over a decade, he is now the founder and Artistic Director of AntonioBrownDance. Though now a resident of NYC, Brown has maintained strong ties to and a desire through his art to “do good” within the Cleveland community. His natural charisma and his talents as dancer and choreographer mesh with his belief in the arts as a vehicle for positive social change. He is equally comfortable creating work on his own highly skilled company as on targeted community groups. He is the right person to initiate a yearlong series of activities that illuminate the important role of the arts in community engagement.
