Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by James Lapine
Directed by Russ Borski, Music Direction by Maria DiDonato
The theatre season opens on the Allen Theatre Mainstage with the Stephen Sondheim / James Lapine musical INTO THE WOODS, running Oct. 24 through Nov. 3, 2019. Directed by Russ Borski with musical direction by Maria DiDonato, this Tony Award winning musical begins with “Once upon a time…” and tells the intersecting stories of several Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault fairy tales. Just when everyone’s journey seems to be resolved, the characters’ worlds are shattered, only to be recombined to show that nobody really lives “happily ever after.”

February 27-March 8, 2020
The Outcalt Theatre - Playhouse Square

CSU's second theatre production of the year is Tom Stoppard's THE REAL INSPECTOR HOUND.  This play within a play is part parody, part farce, part whodunit, and explores the ideology of free will and fate. A murder mystery with a twist ending, intertwines classic characters of melodrama with the commentary and insecurities of modern critics. Directed by Russ Borski

BLOOD AT THE ROOT
April 16-26, 2020
The Helen Rosenfeld Lewis Bialosky Lab Theatre
Written by Dominique Morisseau, Directed by Colleen Jackson

A striking new ensemble drama based on the Jena Six; six Black students who were initially charged with attempted murder for a school fight after being provoked with nooses hanging from a tree on campus. This bold new play by Dominique Morisseau (Sunset Baby, Detroit '67, Skeleton Crew) examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crises in relations between men and women of all classes and, as a result, the shattering state of Black family life.
