Students in our department are encouraged to pursue research and internship opportunities as they work toward their degree requirements. Examples of internships our students have participated in include working at the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court. This summer students worked on transcribing qualitative data about violence exposure and medical neglect from interviews with formerly incarcerated men and women. This fall one of our students will be traveling to Atlanta to present research at the annual American Society of Criminology (ASC) meeting. Students also present their research each spring semester at the Northeast Ohio Undergraduate Sociology Symposium (NEOUSS). These opportunities give our students learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom and help them to explore possibilities related to graduate school, publishing, and applied research.
